ANDY BERNSTEIN joined the Union of Jewish Women Durban Executive in May 1985 having been involved on the, then, Toni Saphra branch committee and held office as Chairman of that branch.

Andy was the Durban Executive Chairman during 1998-99, is involved with and participates in all UJW Durban projects and serves as Durban’s NEC representative, which she has done for several years. Andy convenes the Pesach and Rosh Hashana Parcel project for clients of Durban Jewish Social Services. At many a Union “event” Andy’s style and finishing touch is always evident.

In keeping with the Bernstein family tradition she has convened the Durban Women’s United Communal Fund Campaign for many years, following in the footsteps of the late Esther Bernstein z’l and the late Marie Rose Bernstein z’l. Andy, together with her current co-convenor Natalie Baitz, has taken the success of the campaign to new heights.

Her loyalty to the Union is unquestioned and in her quiet, unassuming way Andy is happy to assist in any way possible. She is involved in more aspects of Union and Communal work than anyone is aware as her help is sought by several other Durban Jewish organizations.

Andy has a positive attitude, carries out all her tasks efficiently and her outgoing, friendly manner ensures that she is a popular member of any committee.
Andy is the recipient of the Sara Sloman Award in recognition of her dedicated and meritorious service to the UJW Durban for over 25 years. The Union of Jewish Women Durban is proud to say “Andy is ours!”
