Branch: Ongoing Projects:
Kensington Creche
Adult Education:
Talks held 2- 3 times a year on various subjects.
Friendship Club:
The elderly meet every Tuesday for tea &
sandwiches.
They do exercises, play bingo & knit for
Jersey Week.At present there are only three
but we will continue as long as there is a need.
Chanukah Lunch:
We hold this just before Chanukah for the Friendship Club members & any husbands who wish to attend,together with the Synagogue Guild Ladies ,Members of our committee and our Rebbetzin, Malka Shalpid..
Sunshine Place:
This is a home for abandoned Children.
Once a month one of our members takes chicken & muffins to the home. We host a Christmas Party each year.
This year one of our members has a trampoline which we will be donating to them.
Each child –there are 18 at present- will be receiving a gift plus a new pair of shoes and sandals which we have had donated.They each receive a “goody box” of sweets.cupcakes, biscuits ,chips & cooldrink.The children entertain us with singing and dancing.
Last year we invited Mrs Balindlela ,the Premier of the Eastern Cape.She donated a new tiled floor for the entrance and living room.We have invited her back this year so she can see what a difference her donation has made.
Senior Citizens’ Tea:
Each year we host a tea for about 130 Senior Citizens from various homes in East London i.e.Meals on Wheels, D.J.Sobey, McClelland, Fairlands, Langham House ,Kennersley Park, Friendship Club, Silver Crown & Salvation Army. They are treated to tea ,sandwiches ,cakes & tarts.This year Bruce Gardiner ,a well known pianist entertained us, together with a group of singers.A wonderful time was had by all.
Jersey Week:
We collect clothing & help sort & pack.
Salem Baby Centre:
We donated cot blankets,secondhand baby clothes & toys.
Hunter House of Clarendon High School raised R2300.We got a list of clothing needed for the children from the director of Salem and we purchased beautiful clothing for the children on their behalf.
Hospice:
We purchased 14 wall heaters & 2 computers for them. Once in three months we go and assist them with the packing of toiletries for their out patients.Five of our members spend about three hours doing this.
Trudy Thomas project Aids Orphans- We donated groceries.
Meals on Wheels:
We act as hoppers,donate containers & biscuits for their Christmas Hampers & help pack the hampers.
Cansa:
We donated a freezer to them.We make make soup & meals which they freeze and take to needy cancer patients.
Living waters:
Melonie Gobel of Living Waters is starting a Rape Crisis Centre.This will be fully equipped with female Policewoman, Psychologists & Social Workers. We donated R1000.00 towards their new building. We will be donating “Care Packs’ on an ongoing basis .These include soap, shampoo, conditioner ,tooth brush ,tooth paste ,face cloth, sanitary pad ,panties ,sweet & a caring note.
Fundraiser:
We will be holding a Fundraising Lunch on 25 th March next year.We are most fortunate to have Dori Weil as our Guest Speaker. Most of the funds raised that day will go towards our Care Packs .
