UNION OF JEWISH WOMEN OF SOUTH AFRICA DONATES TO PARASITOLOGY LABORATORY AT THE HEBREW UNIVERSITY, JERUSALEM

For many years the Union of Jewish Women of South Africa (UJWSA) has made the Department of Parasitology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, one of its beneficiaries. This Department works together with the Kuvin Centre for the Study of Infectious & Tropical Diseases at the Hebrew University.

The Department of Parasitology has, over the years, made major breakthroughs in the control, and often, the eradication of pests and parasites, inter alia, bed bugs, fleas, dust mites and ticks.

The Department’s mission is to study the cause and effect of vector-borne diseases in an attempt to find and implement strategies to reduce and eliminate the impact of these diseases. It is making significant strides in the alleviation of the suffering and damage caused by these diseases.

A prime example of ongoing intensive research is the successful development of a new method for the control of malaria-bearing mosquitoes in the West African state of Mali. The simple method of control of these pests will hopefully bring about a significant reduction and decline of Anopholes mosquitoes in afflicted regions of the world.

The UJWSA is proud to be associated with this most important sphere of research and development in Israel.
